Skeleton Border

Picture

This piece describes the walls between life and death as the background color shifts from a warm to a cool color. The warm oranges and yellows describe the long lasting life as it shifts over to a cold blue,  clearly a representation of a slow inevitable passing. While the colors shift, the higher up parts for the piece fades into a bright whiteness; somewhat of a representation of the conscious and unconsciousness of a human being.

FlowER pOT

Picture
Wit the oil pastels I try to push my light and dark colors, while adding bits of complimentary colors; although the image resolution makes it difficult to see. What I try to avoid while finishing this piece was any overuse of colors and mixing bright/non-complementary coloring, or over-layering the canvas so it doesn't lose it's value. Some part I wanted to show was the somewhat exact placement of my objects as accurate to my oil piece, and try not to use bright neon colors or too dark shadings that it becomes something of low quality.

Wire Bunny

Picture
Picture
The process to creating my wire bunny was very simple as I wrapped the soft wire around the structure of my bunny money bank that I own to create the outer body, as well as the inner body such as the feet, and the outer part for the ears which were the hardest to keep together. Originally I had wrapped a large portion of it in masking tape, which in looking back at my wire sculpture I deeply regret doing so as to why I took it off. What I had intended to do was add small wire roses but my time was very limited as well as the amount of wire used in this project.

Jellyfish

Picture
My next piece was inspired from a old memory from my childhood and some mixed with recent summer events. When I was young, I had the craziest idea to go swimming at the beach in my clothes since I had no swimsuit. At the time I was with my church group, I was scolded later for my actions; although it was a happy memory. It was what I had intended when I created this piece to reminisce my childhood. The jellyfish was inspired from a trip to the Baltimore Aquarium with my family, apparently there was a jellyfish exhibit nearby. Watching the jellyfish swim around and glow so brightly had me mesmerized while looking up close. This art piece was submitted, and accepted to the Off The Wall competition, and was used as well in the art festival at Colgan. My process was using mixes of warm colors for the sky, as well as cool colors for the ocean water; although at the time my knowledge of complementary and mixing of colors within digital medias were somewhat limited, but I have improved on them since then.

Sketchbook: TRANQUILITY

Picture

Edible Life

The way I wanted to describe tranquility is to created a calm cool colored, spacious room with certain items that can be commonly found in you house or plants, and or animals from the outdoors that show a nice, calm feeling. In a way this would be my opinion of tranquility with this room decor.

I try to show the lighting and folds within the fabric while creating my still life piece towards the end of the year; although my use of bright lights and blending need work because of the lack of pushing my lights and darks in a certain direction when blending the pastels with the oils. To me I had liked the way I had a much easier time blending complementary or darker color tones to place any finishing touches on my piece.
Something I wished I had done was fix the pineapple and its values due to it being very muddy, and not showing as much highlight as the other objects on the canvas.
